ACCESSIBILITY
STATEMENT
For Our Dental Practice
OUR COMMITMENT
Straven Family Dentistry (the “Practice,” “we,” “us”) is committed to ensuring that our website, www.stravenfamilydentistry.com, is accessible to people of all abilities. We believe that every person has the right to access information about their oral health and our services with dignity, equality, comfort, and independence, and we work to keep that belief reflected in how our website is built and maintained.
STANDARDS WE FOLLOW
As an Ontario dental practice, we are subject to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (“AODA”) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (“IASR”). Our website is designed with the goal of conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, which meets and exceeds the WCAG 2.0 Level AA target required by the IASR.
WHAT OUR WEBSITE DOES TODAY
The following accessibility features are implemented across our website:
- Reduced-motion support.Visitors who have enabled the “reduce motion” setting in their operating system will see animations on our site degrade to plain opacity fades, removing translational motion that can cause discomfort.
- Adequate tap-target sizing. The mobile menu button is sized at 48×48 pixels and tappable contact elements (phone, email) meet the 44×44 pixel minimum recommended by WCAG 2.5.5.
- Semantic HTML structure. Pages use proper landmark elements (
<nav>,<main>,<section>,<footer>) and a logical heading hierarchy, so that assistive technologies can navigate and announce content correctly. - Descriptive alternative text. Images on the website include descriptive
altattributes so that their content is conveyed to users of screen readers. - Accessible interactive controls. The mobile navigation toggle includes an
aria-label; form fields show a visible focus state when navigated by keyboard. - Smooth in-page navigation. Anchor links in the page (for example, jumping from the home-page services grid to a specific service on the services page) scroll smoothly rather than snapping, reducing disorientation.
ONGOING IMPROVEMENT
Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time project. We conduct internal reviews of our website against WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria and act on issues we discover, and we welcome reports of barriers encountered by visitors. Where issues are identified, we aim to remediate them within a reasonable timeframe based on the nature and impact of the issue.
Despite these efforts, some content may not yet be fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. If you encounter a barrier, please tell us using the contact details under How to Reach Us below, and we will do our best to address it.
ALTERNATIVE ACCESSIBLE FORMATS
If you require any information published on this website, or any information about our services, in an alternative accessible format (for example, large print, plain text, audio, or another format that meets your needs), please contact us using the details below. We will work with you to provide the information in a format that is suitable and in a reasonable timeframe, at no additional cost.
